Description

Birkin's Bend, preceded by Rhencullen, is a corner named after Archie Birkin. Birkin was participating in an early morning practice session during the 1927 TT races. During the session, he approached the bend and was met with a fish-van travelling in the opposite direction, forcing Birkin to swerve, which subsequently caused him to lose control. Birkin crashed and unfortunately suffered fataly injuries.
Roads during the practice sessions weren't closed to the general public in 1927.
